How should I & can I do my hair? More details included.?

So I’m gonna be a gothic aqua fairy. The picture had the girl using fake colored hair and it was spiky, but I don’t have the money or time to get fake hair. So how can I get a spiky hair-do for my costume.
My hair is very very thick and it comes down to about my shoulders and it’s so straight. When ever i add hairspray or gel it doesn’t work it like comes out.
How can I get spiky hair?

They have this pike stuff, and it actually has glur product in it. Or i heard that the gel blue type of glue works good for long spikes.
But I wouldnt do spikes if your hair is that long, it would look strange, maybe.
I would do just really straight hair
Orrr, make it really thick like and crazy out there BIG. Like have it straight and blow dry your hair underneath, like with your hair flipped. Give it the vulume and use ALOT of spray.
