Do u think that vampire/alien stories are too overdone?

I'm an aspiring fantasy writer, and I am drawn to writing about vampire or alien characters, but I'm thinking it would be hard to come with a completely original idea.

that is great that you are a writer, i think that aleins are too overdone. but there ARE vampires, they dont actually suck blood but they do DRINK it. but, fantasy books usually are overdone, so, go with the flow or do uwhat u think is right…good luck
Not completely over done. I think you should definately write about them, but be descriptive and have a different point of view on what a vampire or alien would look like. I personaly love writing about aliens and vampires!
It is hard to find an original idea. But they are so much fun. I like zombie flicks. There aren't really any new ideas, but they are just so much fun to watch.
I Think they are overdone by far! But I don't think that it would be to difficult thinking of anything. Harry Potter, Narnia, etc proved that the world is looking for a "saviour". Create that character and your books will sell…
Yes, I think it's overdone. But you can do these characters in some hideous manner, like describing people as vampires in their attitude to others so that such a vampire or alien stays closer to the real life. It should be more of a psychology stuff.
YES! i am so sick of seeing nothing but stories about sexy vampires falling into forbidden love. Alien stories aren't nearly as common, but I don't read them often because they bore me.
Well, take some ideas from the best ten movies of 2004. One is a vampire movie, others are other weird movies you can take ideas from. Watch them, then write a story based on them. 'K.
I would have to say that by themselves they probably ARE a bit overdone…so why not try to create a novel where one finds out that he vampires ARE also the aliens?
Don't worry if you don't have a completely original idea. It's VERY hard nowdays to have something completely unique, especially because of all the stories that have been told. No matter what, some idea always connects with something else. Instead, let the idea come to you. Once you get the smallest of ideas, keep on thinking about it. Twist it until it is as original as you can get it. The idea will most likely change over the course of time, so don't rush right into the novel/boook/story. However, you probably know all about this, so good luck!!
Uh-huh, vampires of a certain kind have really been all sucked out of any interesting 'facts.'
But I guess you can make a different kind if you want to… perhaps one who is a butler in a very wealthy and proper English household… or a bouncer at a rocker club… or maybe a 'lady of the night,' which in my day did not mean a vampire–
Aliens are always good to go. They can take so many different forms, and even morph as they progress along.
They can also have been 'something' here on earth a long time, like maybe bottle rockets. (?!)
Anything goes with aliens.
ADD: and anything goes in your imagination if you let it ride. I think you can handle this if you want to.
Don't get me wrong, I love vampire and alien stories. I just don't like the ones that are coming out right now, taking advantage of the whole Harry Potter-Twilight obsession to get the books sold.

Yes, I definately think that the vampire idea is currently being overused. It seems like every fantasy novel out there has to do with vampires, and unless you can really create a unique plot with them, they are too overused.
Aliens…they aren't as overused as vampires. But I kinda think the alien craze has come and gone with star wars, star gate, etc etc. It's not that the idea is over used, its just that it's hard to create a truly original, unique plot with aliens, because anything with aliens in it is somewhat generic.
