I am very interested in Gothic literature and art works, but I am curious as to what exactly makes a piece of art work be called "Gothic". I only identify Gothic art works, by the eerie mood and the creepy, but very elegant mood it has. Are there specific elements, or certain rules that make a piece of work be classified as Gothic? Thanks!
Can you suggest a website where I can see some examples of it.
Thank you very much for your help
My ex-husband had lots of books on this artist, I loved the art myself, now that I have been divorced for a few years now, I am trying to remember who it was so I may purchase a book of my own. I thought the name was Braum but when I googled it, nothing…
Any suggestions? I’m trying to educate myself about art, here. lol.
i already have this for my essayy.
Northern Europe’s renaissance was very different from the renaissance of Southern Italy. The North kept gothic or middle ages art and architecture longer than Italy did. Architecture, stayed very much Gothic until late into the 16th century. But the art was changing in the north and in many areas it was the same as the Italian ways. The Northern have more urban cities and are based on trade. Their architecture was mainly influenced by classic Greek and Roman work. The northern renaissance was more literary and artistic while the Italian renaissance was more focused on political terms and power issues. The northern concentrated more on religion and perfecting religious values where the Italians were more humanistic by, freeing man from the old traditional attitudes and scriptures which then allowed man to be viewed as an individual and free to work w/ art, literature, sculptures, paintings.
please help its due tomorrow!!!!!!!!!!!!!
he is a spanish architect that lived from 1852-1926. he is famous for his unique style which blends elements of gothic art and art nouveau to produce wavy glowing forms. who is he and where can i find most of his work?
I’ve just started a fine art AS course and am looking for fine art artists (according to my teacher) and i want to find an artist who would fit my style. I’m a slightly gothic and fantasy artist. Most my work are also surreal if that helps. I would be greatful if I got an artist who fints my style of art. At the moment i’m thinking of Leonardo De Vinci, but i’d like more options than that.
I’ve seen it everywhere. In magazines, in internet, in CD covers, in clothes… But I want to know what the name of it is. Here are some examples:

Don’t Pay attention to the theme (what the illustrations are about), I am interested in the technique, que repetitive patterns, the use of stencil like little images, the way the human body is defined in black and white shapes, the little twirls and fine curved lines, the intense colors, ink splaters, etc.
A member of the family bought a wall hanging for our southwest home which has a bison skull and Christian crosses on it. He says it is a Mexican design. I think it looks sort of satanic/gothic or whatever. Has anyone seen this type of design before or have an opinion of it. I tried finding info or examples online and came up with nothing. Thanks.

Hi there, I’m looking for some graphic novels or even comics with a sort of ‘gothic’ theme to them, now, by this I mean more of the artwork and stuff, but the storyline can be dark too, as long as the artwork is also gothic.
I want to know because I am interested in the art and storyline’s of these books, and want to build up a collection.
Any suggestions are appreciated. Thanks, Tom
PS - anything with a truly genius plot/storyline will also be good.
That similiar to what you’d find in a Goth Comic or as a tattoo…snakes, skulls, the grim reaper. It’s not "Gothic" or Modern…just looking for a book on it.
Im sure the main question is misleading because I am not exactly sure what I am looking for and since I am fairly uneducated in the field of art, gothic is the term which I choose to describe it. I would like to buy a print of art which has a very dark and dreary feeling to it, yet it is still beautiful. Im sorry my question is so vague but if anyone understands what I getting at, could you help me out.
Does anyone know what materials/supplies they used to do really detailed art like some of the Arabic art you see or even some of the Gothic stuff with the really detailed borders and stuff? I’ve also seen gold floral stuff that could be interesting to know how to do.
A friend of mine is a big anime fanatic. She was given a Gothic Lolita bible by a person in her church and now she’s pretty much obsessed with it. For halloween she bought a "Gothic Lolita Kimono". I dont really think its gothic lolita since the lolita fashion was inspired by the Victorian age.
Yesterday, we took some pictures. Is this even close to it?

I agree with all of you and yes, it was a halloween costume and the sad part is, she wore her regular shoes, nothing dressy like. I fixed the pic so you can see it better.
