Can you run a grunge pedal through a microphone for a more scary sound effect?

If not is there anything like a grunge pedal out there but for a microphone??

What you want is an effects unit and a mic mixer if you don’t already have one. An effects unit is designed to connect to a sound system mixing board. It will have many different effects including "scary" ones:
